Will You Commit to One More Family Meal?

Ann Dunaway Teh & Lesley Baradel

September is  a hallmark of many things: football season, cooler weather, back in school, etc. but it is also  National Family Meals Month. Did you know that only 30% of Americans have family meals every night according to one poll? It is no wonder as over-scheduled and over-worked as many are, dashing from one activity to another.

There are so many benefits to family meals as illustrated by the following infographics, courtesy of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI):

Benefits of Family Meals

Yes, we’re all busy and it is hard at times, I know, to have family meals every night. Also, think outside the box, the meal doesn’t have to be dinner. It could be breakfast or even lunch on the weekend. Whenever it makes the most sense for your family’s schedule. That is also why this campaign is all about taking it one step at a time and asking families to just commit to one more meal together per week. Below are some ideas on how to make it happen for your family:

Of course we are happy to help, too, with our menu planning membership. (Remember there is still time to take advantage of our back to school special with 15% off any of our membership plans by using promo code BACKTOSCHOOL15 before 9/30/15.) Or if you are interested in trying your own hand at menu planning, our SCALES infographic is handy to hang on the fridge to guide you through the process.

So we challenge you to #RaiseYourMitt and commit to
one more family meal per week. Join us!

To commit to the challenge, post a picture of your family on social media using the hashtags #RaiseYourMitts and #FamilyMealsMonth.

This blossomed into My Menu Pal where we help the food industry up their nutrition game to become their customer's nutrition hero.
