Instructions
  1. Put a steamer basket in a large pot. Fill with water to just below the steamer basket. Bring to a boil.
  2. Cut florets off the heads of the broccoli. Cut the stalks into bite sized pieces. For any really thick pieces of stalk, shave off some of the outside and then cut into bite sized pieces. Put the broccoli into the steamer basket and cover with a lid.
  3. Steam broccoli for about 5 minutes or until desired degree of tenderness. Drain water and put broccoli into the pot. Season according to your family’s tastes. Ann’s family prefers a little bit of Smart Balance spread, a few drops of lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder and Italian seasoning.
Recipe Notes

Chef’s Notes: One of Lesley’s favorite kitchen tools is her steamer. Broccoli is her kid’s favorite vegetable so the steamer is always in use. The best part about the steamer is that you can set it for the exact time you like to cook your vegetables and step away. For instance, Lesley steams her broccoli for 13 minutes in her steamer and knows it will come out just the way she likes it each time.
